Vincent Kompany is certainly a legend of the Premier League, and one of the best centre-backs the league has ever seen. Could Leeds United now be signing the next Kompany?
Leeds United already have an eye on next summer, it seems, and who they could add to their side after going the whole of the January transfer window without a first-team signing.
In the end, Robbie Cook joined Leeds but the young goalkeeper will be starting with the development team.
During January, it seemed like Leeds were targeting two main positions: centre-back and striker, with a number in each position linked with a move to Elland Road during the window.
And in the summer, expect those two positions to again be the main focus for Farke who’ll either be preparing his side for the Premier League, or losing a number of players who don’t want to play in the Championship anymore.
As far as centre-backs go, it looks like Leeds have one who they’ve been keeping tabs on for some time now in Genoa’s Koni De Winter.

Koni De Winter compares his skillset to Vincent Kompany
Leeds United were linked with De Winter back in March 2024. The 22-year-old’s links to Leeds were somewhat brief, but a recently emerging article from iNews says that De Winter is ‘catching the eye’ of Leeds, along with West Ham and Wolves.
In fact, iNews have even interviewed De Winter who’s now compared his game to that of former Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany. De Winter explained: “All my life I have been told I play like Vincent Kompany.
“I have this ability to make runs with the ball like he did, I have the same technical side. It’s a really big name, so I one day hope to be able to live up to him.
“You look at the other big names (former Belgian Premier League defenders) and it is only right that they ended playing up in the best competitions.”
De Winter left Juventus for Genoa in a £6million deal last year, when Leeds were trying to sign the Belgian.

Several players already linked with summer moves to Leeds United
Despite the summer still being several months away, with Leeds not yet knowing what division they’ll be playing in next season, the Whites are being linked with a number of summer moves.
The likes of Emi Buendia and Cameron Archer have been touted as summer targets for Farke. Elsewhere, recent reports have revealed that Leeds have held talks with Eduard Spertsyan over a summer move.
De Winter is likely one of a number of centre-backs who Leeds have their sights set one. But competing with Wolves and West Ham will require Premier League football at a minimum.
Leeds have to focus on the task at hand and on the upcoming Championship against Sunderland on Monday night.
