All eyes will on on Elland Road on Monday night, as Leeds United host Sunderland in a promotion crunch match in the Championship.
Leeds United and Sunderland are two of the teams vying for promotion from the Championship this season, with Leeds in 1st place of the table and currently seven points ahead of the Black Cat in 4th.
But going into Monday’s game, it Leeds who look the formidable one right now. They’re unbeaten in 14 in the league and go into Monday on the back of a very convincing 4-0 win away at Watford.
Sunderland meanwhile beat Luton Town 2-0 in their last game. But the Black Cats will be buoyed by their record against the top teams this season, having beaten Sheffield United on New Year’s Day and having taken four points off Burnley this season.
Earlier in the season, Leeds United drew 2-2 with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. The Whites were on track to win the game but for Illan Meslier’s last minute blunder sharing the points.

Sam Parkin shares Leeds United vs Sunderland score prediction
Speaking on the Championship Check In ahead of the next round of second tier games, Sky Sports commentator and Championship expert Sam Parkin revealed his score prediction for Monday night’s showdown in West Yorkshire.
Unsurprisingly, Parkin has sided with Leeds who he thinks will start fast against Sunderland, and get revenge for that 2-2 draw on Wearside earlier in the campaign. Parkin said: “I’m really looking forward to this. I just think this is one of these nights where the Leeds fans will know the importance of it, putting down another marker. It’d be colossal for Sunderland to go there and win.”
Parkin later added: “I can see Leeds flying at them, maybe getting two goals in front, and possibly Sunderland getting one back and making it a grandstand finish.”
Parkin predicts a 2-1 win for Leeds United on Monday. It’d be a win that takes them past the 70 point mark in the Championship this season, and it’d really put them in good stead ahead of their trip to Sheffield United the following Monday.
Controversial EFL decision made ahead of Leeds United vs Sunderland
The stakes are high going into Monday. A win for Leeds would see them really start to pull away at the top, whilst a win for Sunderland opens the title race wide open.
Needless to say, then, that both Leeds United and Sunderland fans are fuming at a recent EFL decision to name Blades fan Craig Pawson as the referee for Monday’s game.
It’s a bizarre decision to put him in charge of Monday’s game. But Daniel Farke will be relying on his own team’s quality to get through what promises to be a very tough game.
Leeds are on fire right now whereas Sunderland have had a couple of iffy results of late. If Leeds play their best game, they should get through this next challenge.
