Like last summer, the upcoming transfer window promises to be a busy one for Leeds in terms of incoming and outgoing signings – but for just £10m, Daniel Farke could pull off his best deal yet.
Farke and Leeds enjoyed a very solid summer window, despite being faced with adversity. Victor Orta’s relegation loan clause meant money was not as free-flowing as it was at Leicester or Southampton.
It also means Leeds have numerous players still out on loan and their futures will have to be tied up – though Robin Koch and Luis Sinisterra will leave permanently when their loans end. That is confirmed.
In terms of incomings, it was excellent. Ethan Ampadu, Sam Byram, Joel Piroe, Jaidon Anthony, Ilia Gruev, Glen Kamara and now, even Connor Roberts, can all be seen as successful additions to the side.
There have been a couple of questionable ones – Djed Spence’s loan not going to plan and Karl Darlow failing to really push Illan Meslier. But all in all, a brilliant window – especially, with Joe Rodon on loan.
£10m for Joe Rodon would be Daniel Farke’s best Leeds deal yet
We got the Welsh man mountain on a dry loan from Tottenham – meaning a permanent deal will have to be orchestrated this summer. Rodon has made it clear he would like to play for us in the Premier League.
Earlier reports dictated that a fee of £20m might be required, but this week, it is claimed Spurs want between £10m and £15m for the 26-year-old. Dom Matteo loves him, surprised by how “rapid” he is.
Ampadu has been a bargain at £7m, Byram has done a really good job on a free and Ilia Gruev is quickly becoming a steal at £4m. Glen Kamara proved Ross McCormack’s August prediction about him, right.
But if Leeds can strike a permanent deal for Rodon for the bottom end of that range, paying a £10m fee – then it will be buy some distance, Farke’s best deal as Leeds manager. Hopefully, it can get done.
