A decision on the future of Leeds United target Alexander Nubel is expected to be made this week.
That is according to Sky in Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, who has been providing regular updates on the Nubel saga in the last few days after Leeds’ interest first broke on Thursday.
Nubel will be allowed to leave Bayern Munich this summer with Thomas Tuchel in the market for a new backup goalkeeper to Manuel Neuer.
Leeds are said to be battling Stuttgart for the signing of the 26-year-old, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.
Stuttgart are keen on signing Nubel on loan with the option to buy him next summer, while Leeds are reportedly willing to pay the £6.8 million asking price to sign him permanently.
Decision expected on future of Leeds target Nubel this week
According to reports in Germany, Nubel’s preference would be to remain in the Bundesliga due to his reluctance to drop to the second tier in England.
However, as per Kicker yesterday, Stuttgart’s talks with Bayern have so far proven to be unsuccessful, with the German champions keen on moving him on permanently.
That certainly puts the transfer in a difficult situation as one way or another, either Nubel or Bayern will have to come to some sort of compromise to ensure he does indeed depart.
Should Leeds prove fruitless in their pursuit of Nubel, Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow is another potential options the club are targeting between the sticks.
In fact, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth, Darlow is seen as the most likely to come to Elland Road out of the two anyway.
