German magazine Kicker claim Stuttgart held talks to sign Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel but they have proven to be unsuccessful – in what could prove to be a boost to Leeds United, in the race to land the German.
Nubel, 26, is expected to leave Bayern Munich this summer, after spending the last two seasons on loan at Monaco. Last week, newspaper Bild said Leeds were battling Stuttgart in a two-horse race to land the German goalkeeper.
The Mail followed up that initial report by saying that Leeds wanted Nubel on a permanent basis, willing to splash a fee of £6.8m on Nubel. However, Nubel preferred a move to Stuttgart – but, Stuttgart only wanted him on loan.
Bayern are preferring to sell him permanently. So, there is going to need to be some compromise. Nubel wants Stuttgart, Bayern want Leeds, Leeds will pay, Stuttgart will not. He met for Stuttgart talks ‘at the end of last week’.
But, after only the first round of talks, the move has been called off and negotiations deemed “unsuccessful”. So, Leeds could have been handed a boost in pursuit of Nubel – but he will take some convincing to move to England.

What a signing Nubel would be for Leeds. It looks as if Leeds are starting the offensive to bring in some new players this week, with a deal agreed for Chelsea’s Etham Ampadu. Some reports say a move for Glen Kamara is also close.
Leeds still need a left-back, a goalkeeper, a no.10, potentially a winger and maybe a striker. Nubel would certainly fill the void in goal – with Joel Robles confirming his exit and Illan Meslier likely to be sold. But Nubel needs convincing.
