Graham Smyth details which goalkeeper is most likely to join Leeds as top two targets emerge

Leeds United are more likely to sign Karl Darlow than Alexander Nubel this summer.

That is according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth, who provided the update on the latest episode of the Inside Elland Road Podcast.

Darlow is a player Leeds have been linked with throughout the window so far, and are said to be battling it out with Premier League outfit Bournemouth in a deal that could be worth £5 million.

Nubel, meanwhile, is a name that has cropped up in the last few days with the 26-year-old keen on leaving Bayern Munich this summer after his two-year loan spell at AS Monaco came to an end.

Leeds are reportedly willing to pay the £6.8 million asking price to sign him permanently, but face competition from Stuttgart, who are currently the favourites for his signature.

Smyth details who Leeds are most likely to sign from Darlow and Nubel

Nubel’s preference is thought to be to remain in the Bundesliga this season due to his reluctance to drop into the Championship, according to the German media.

Smyth appears to have backed up those claims by stating Darlow is far more likely to make the switch to Elland Road than Nubel.

“We know that they’ve looked at Karl Darlow as an option, and there is also the Bayern Munich goalkeeper Nubel as well, but he’s far less likely, much, much, much less likely than Darlow if I were to put any money on which one of them will come in.”

Both would represent good options between the sticks this summer, with Darlow boasting an abundance of experience in the top two divisions of English football.

That said, Nubel is slightly younger than Darlow and would potentially make for a more exciting option, though there wouldn’t be many complaints if Leeds are able to bring one of these two through the door.
