Josuha Guilavogui and Daniel Farke left-back decision… Five things to look out for in Bristol City vs Leeds

Leeds United face another one of the Championship’s top 10 as they make the trip to Bristol City in their next fixture.

The Whites have already faced six of the top 10 so far this season with the six-match unbeaten Robins set to be the seventh and final one until the end of December.

Daniel Farke’s side will be looking to make it three wins in a row for the first time this term at Ashton Gate and can move into top spot temporarily at least ahead of the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.

Jermaine Beckford is tipping Leeds for victory once again but they will certainly have to be at their best in order to do so, with Bristol City still yet to taste defeat at home this season.

Here are five things to look out for ahead of the game.

Josuha Guilavogui fitness

Leeds finally ended their search for a free agent signing on Wednesday with Josuha Guilavogui putting pen-to-paper on a short-term deal.

Guilavogui has been without a club since his release from Mainz in the summer and last played 90 minutes all the way back in March.

Farke confirmed Guilavogui is eligible for Leeds in his press conference but whether he deems him fit enough to be involved, remains to be seen.

Junior Firpo replacement decision

Farke has gone with the same back four and goalkeeper in all 11 Championship matches this season but will not be able to do so at Ashton Gate.

Junior Firpo will sit out the match after picking up his fifth booking of the season meaning one of Sam Byram or Isaac Schmidt will come into the side.

Schmidt’s attacking output makes him a more like-for-like replacement but Farke has used Byram off the bench more often, and so it will be interesting to see who he goes with.

Dan James or Manor Solomon?

Alongside Firpo, Leeds will also be without their starting left-winger this afternoon following Largie Ramazani’s injury on Tuesday.

Farke shared an update on Ramazani in his presser on Friday and his absence will open the door for one of Manor Solomon or Dan James.

Solomon was chosen to replace him against Watford, but James produced a far more effective performance in the limited number of minutes he had.

Selecting James would likely see Wilfried Gnonto move over to the left, meaning it is down to Farke how much he wants to change that attacking setup around.

Daniel Farke’s striker decision

Based on the season so far it would appear Farke is yet to settle on his starting striker. After starting the first eight league matches, Mateo Joseph has been forced to sit on the bench in the last three for Joel Piroe.

Piroe was largely ineffective against both Sheffield United and Watford but Joseph’s record of missed chances is clearly cause for concern for Farke.

That said, it is the latter who offers far more as an overall package in attack and so it would be nice to see him get the nod here.

Leeds’ record against Bristol City

There aren’t many teams in England Leeds have a better record against than Bristol City over the last few years.

The two sides have played each other 18 times since 2010 and only on three occasions have Leeds not come away with a win.

Leeds have won all of their last six meetings, as well as four in a row at Ashton Gate, and a continuation of that run would be a really good result today.
