Insight on Max Wober’s Leeds United future as 49ers possible stance on January exit emerges

Max Wober faces an uncertain future at Leeds United, with the Austrian defender having featured just four times in the Championship this season.

Since joining Leeds United from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2023, Max Wober has featured just 20 times in the league for Leeds, spending all of last season on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Wober has since returned to Elland Road and has played four times in the Championship so far, scoring once. Right now though, Wober is injured and expected back in the New Year.

And Wober is one of several Leeds United players linked with January exits in the build up to 2025.

It’s claimed that Salzburg are interested in re-signing Wober and that might worry Daniel Farke, with centre-back being a position that he’s already light on. Also, Wolves have been linked with Wober ahead of January.

To add some more uncertainty to the situation, Wober’s fellow Leeds centre-back Pascal Struijk is wanted by Tottenham, so Leeds really need to manage the situation properly.

Leeds United’s stance on Max Wober ahead of January

An emerging report from The Athletic has discussed Leeds’ upcoming transfer window, and the situation regarding Wober.

Journalist Nancy Froston fails to rule out any of the reported interest in Wober but adds that the Leeds hierarchy may want to sign a replacement for Wober before allowing him to leave.

Froston writes of Wober: “It is hard to see him leaving without a replacement,” which makes sense given the lack of depth at centre-back.

As things stand, no new centre-backs are being linked with a move to Elland Road. And given the club’s promotion push, it seems unlikely that either Struijk or Wober will be allowed to leave in January, unless for substantial transfer fees.

Max Wober’s stance on his Leeds United future

Earlier in the season, Wober’s stance on his Leeds United future was revealed amid interest from Red Bull Salzburg.

It was claimed that Wober would prefer to stay at Leeds and battle for promotion to the Premier League instead of returning to Austria with Salzburg.

Interestingly, it was also revealed that Wober’s price tag would not decrease for Salzburg simply because they’re a Red Bull team, like Leeds who are minority owned by the company.

So for the time being, Wober leaving Leeds United in January doesn’t seem very likely.
