Leeds United have made a bright start to life in the Premier League, but how does it compare to their early form in the Championship a year ago?
It’s the October international break, with Leeds United’s promising start to the Premier League season once again going on pause so important 2026 World Cup qualifiers can be played.
Leeds have 12 players on international duty this week, with the Welsh contingent of Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu and Karl Darlow taking on England in a friendly on Thursday in the highlight of the break.
Though the campaign is still in its early stages, it’s a good chance to assess how Daniel Farke’s side have done so far on their return to the top flight.
Here’s how Leeds’ form compares to the same point in the Championship a year ago.

2024 vs 2025: How Leeds United’s first two months of the season compare
Here’s how Leeds’ first seven Premier League games compare to their Championship outings up until the international break last season.
| Championship 2024-25 | Premier League 2025-26 |
| Leeds 3-3 Portsmouth | Leeds 1-0 Everton |
| West Brom 3-3 Leeds | Arsenal 5-0 Leeds |
| Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Leeds | Leeds 0-0 Newcastle |
| Leeds 2-0 Hull | Fulham 1-0 Leeds |
| Leeds 0-1 Burnley | Wolves 1-3 Leeds |
| Cardiff 0-2 Leeds | Leeds 2-2 Bournemouth |
| Leeds 3-0 Coventry | Leeds 1-2 Tottenham |
| Norwich 1-1 Leeds | |
| Sunderland 2-2 Leeds | |
| Points: 16 Position: 5th | Points: 8 Position: 15th |
Unsurprisingly, Leeds had far more points on the board in the Championship, in which they were one of the favourites, compared to now in the Premier League.
Though they had obviously played more games, their Points Per Game rate a year ago was 1.7 compared to 1.14 it is now, which isn’t that steep a drop off given the drastic uptick in quality opposition.
Farke’s side have already played title favourites Arsenal, as well as Champions League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United and established Premier League sides Bournemouth, Fulham and Everton.
Leeds are yet to face any of their fellow promoted clubs and rock-bottom Wolves are the only side below them in the table they have played.
Leeds’ form understandably isn’t as good as it was a year ago, yet their form at this point in 2024 was hardly ideal, either, after they had failed to beat promotion rivals Burnley, Norwich City, Sunderland and West Brom.
The fact that Leeds were 5th at this stage and ended up winning the Championship with 100 points shows they were able to improve their form and climb up the ranks, which is something they can hopefully replicate.
Improvements Leeds United must make in the Premier League
Though it’s been a hopeful start to the Premier League, there are clear areas of improvement Farke must work on in the international break.
His side needs to score more goals, especially from open play. Three of their seven goals so far have been from set pieces. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has missed some great chances, but his teammates need to be creating more opportunities for him to score as well.
Farke has been hamstrung with injuries to Dan James and Willy Gnonto and they have been desperately missed as attacking outlets.
At the other end, Leeds need to improve their concentration. They have conceded late into added time twice already to lose three valuable points, while mistakes elsewhere have cost them silly goals.
These errors must be eradicated if Leeds are to build on their optimistic start.
