Leeds United are back in the Premier League and they have done so in even more impressive fashion than Marcelo Bielsa managed.

A long, hard Championship season has finally come to an end and it couldn’t have done any better for Leeds United.

Daniel Farke’s side had already secured Premier League promotion but they now return to the top flight after a two-year absence as champions.

Leeds went into the final day at all-but-relegated Plymouth Argyle knowing victory would see them finish above Burnley on goal difference and they secured the pivotal three points in dramatic style.

It was by no means easy as Plymouth took the lead in the first half against an off-kilter Leeds. Willy Gnonto levelled just after the break but, with the title heading for Lancashire, it wasn’t until Manor Solomon’s 90th-minute strike did they take the lead.

After a week of wild partying, there’s going to be more celebrations in the south coast sunshine and back home in Leeds on Saturday night, before the club host an open-top bus parade through the city on Monday.

Fans can’t wait to celebrate with the squad, who deserve all the adulation after going up in even more impressive fashion than Marcelo Bielsa’s side did in 2020.

Leeds United win the Championship title with 100 points

Leeds’ fantastic victory on the final day not only means they have reached the legendary 100-point mark, but they have surpassed Bielsa’s side, which also went up as Champions in 2020.

The Whites were fantastic in 2019-20, playing a brand of football that no one at Elland Road had ever seen before. They cruised to the title, finishing 10 points clear of second place, on a final tally of 93.

Farke’s side had already surpassed that tally with the 6-0 thrashing of Stoke City but the current manager had it arguably even harder than the beloved Bielsa.

Leeds sold crucial trio Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and – once the season had already begun – Georginio Rutter in the summer, giving Farke serious upheaval to overcome.

In addition, the title race has been much tighter this season, with Burnley matching Leeds step for step and Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United only falling away in the final month.

This season has been incredibly tough, yet Farke has smashed records in the process of winning it.

Every Championship side to reach the 100-point tally

As a result of reaching triple figures, Leeds have become the newest member of the exclusive 100-points club.

Ironically, with their 3-1 victory over Millwall, Burnley have become the first club to ever get 100 points in a Championship campaign twice and the first to do so without winning the title.

That means there are now eight teams to have reached 100 points, which are:

Leeds remained seven points away from breaking Reading’s record but won’t be dwelling too much on that as they prepare for a return to the Premier League.
