How Daniel Farke’s Leeds United can become the greatest Championship team of all-time

Daniel Farke has already etched himself into Leeds United history with performances this season.

Leeds’ win against Sheffield United has brought them one step closer to achieving promotion, as the Premier League return is looming.

The 49ers’ goal of getting the Whites back to where they belong is so far going to plan, especially with Farke in charge.

It becomes obvious that this Leeds side is one of the great Championship sides when opposition managers heap praise on a team as Chris Wilder waited to congratulate Farke.

Now, Leeds can continue to break records with something that hasn’t been done since 2006.

How Daniel Farke’s Leeds United can reach points record

Leeds have gone 16 games unbeaten in the league, with Farke achieving this after 33 years, dating back to the 1991/92 season.

Ally McCoist thinks Leeds will be promoted, and that is looking fairly likely as the Whites have a five-point gap over Sheffield United.

But Farke can get his side to go one step further and make history by ending a record that has spanned almost 20 years.

In the 2005/06 season, Reading gained the record total of 106 points in the Championship season, and no one has managed to get close. Yet.

Leeds to cement themselves in the history books, would need 107 points, meaning 32 points are required from the remaining 12 games.

That’s 11 wins or 10 wins and two draws. Certainly doable.

A win vs West Brom on Saturday gives Leeds every chance with record

Looking at the remaining fixtures, Leeds have certainly been favoured.

This is due to the Whites having their remaining games go their way, facing just three top-half teams, starting with West Brom on Saturday.

The others are tricky encounters with Millwall and Bristol City, but Leeds don’t look like a losing team at the moment, and 16 games without defeat explains that.

Tony Mowbray’s West Brom provide the real threat to Leeds not completing this record, but a win against the Baggies could open the door to a real possibility of dethroning Reading.
