Gabby Agbonlahor shares Derby County vs Leeds United prediction and makes Whites promotion claim

TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Leeds United could be in store for a fruitful evening at Pride Park on Sunday.

Leeds United take on Paul Warne and his pluck Derby County side on Sunday evening, once again watching the bulk of the Championship play before them.

Last time out, Leeds United beat Stoke City 2-0 and returned themselves to the top of the Championship table after Sheffield United had lost at home to Burnley.

On Sunday, Sheffield United host West Brom in a midday kick off, with Leeds and Derby playing at 5:45pm, then 3rd place Burnley playing away at Middlesbrough in the 8pm game.

As things stand, Derby County sit in 14th place of the table but have won two of their last three in the Championship.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, Derby striker Jerry Yates has predicted a Leeds upset on Sunday, with the Rams doing some extra preparations ahead of their game against the Whites.

Gabby Agbonlahor’s prediction for Derby County vs Leeds United

Leeds United beat Derby County 2-0 at Elland Road earlier in December, in what was the first meeting between the two sides in four years.

Daniel Farke’s side last played Derby at Pride Park in 2020 when Marcelo Bielsa was in charge, the season that Leeds won promotion.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [28.12.24] ahead of the weekend, pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has predicted Leeds to earn promotion from the Championship this season, and to beat Derby County on Sunday.

He said: “I do [think Leeds will be promoted this season]. On Sunday, it’ll be a happy Farke because Derby are poor.

“Leeds are a very good team. Derby very good at home, poor away. They are playing at home on Sunday, but Farke’s team are too strong for anyone at the moment.”

Leeds United duo being monitored ahead of Derby County

It’s no secret that Leeds’ away form has been patchy this season. Derby will certainly pose a threat and for Leeds, the game could be made more difficult by potential injuries in the side.

Ahead of the weekend, it’s been revealed that Leeds are monitoring Ethan Ampadu and Sam Byram’s fitness, with both picking up minor knocks in the game against Stoke City last time out.

Derby may even be counting on facing a makeshift, possibly weakened Leeds side without Ampadu and/or Byram.

But Farke has good depth in the squad and he’ll have to put it to good use; not just against Derby County, but in this congested stretch between now and the March international break.
