Leeds United have been handed a huge boost with regards to one of their reported transfer targets. But Newcastle United could scupper their plans.

Leeds United have big plans and ambitions for 2025, with promotion to the Premier League being the first and foremost goal for the Whites.

Right now, Daniel Farke has the club sitting in 1st place of the Championship table after a 2-0 win against Stoke City on Boxing Day.

Leeds play Derby County in their final game of 2024 on Sunday. Soon after, the January transfer window will open, and Leeds fans will hope to see some new faces arrive at Elland Road.

We could potentially see movement in the goalkeeper department with Illan Meslier now linked with Fiorentina, as well as Arsenal and Manchester United, whilst Swedish goalkeeper Noel Tornqvist is wanted by Leeds United.

Another shot-stopper on Leeds’ radar is Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher. Leeds United are reportedly interested in Kelleher who’s been tipped to leave Anfield in 2025.

Huge update on Caoimhin Kelleher’s Liverpool future as Newcastle United take aim

An emerging report from TEAMtalk has shared the latest on Kelleher’s situation at Liverpool, who’ve just agreed a £25million deal to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in the summer of 2025.

That news appears to have prompted an update on Kelleher with TEAMtalk saying that Liverpool are ‘willing to sell’ Kelleher ‘for the right price next summer’, but that Newcastle United ‘are keeping an eye on the situation’.

The same report also rules out speculation linking Kelleher with a move to Chelsea in 2025.

The latest on Illan Meslier’s Leeds United future ahead of January

Whether or not Leeds seriously pursue a move for Kelleher could depend entirely on what happens with Meslier, either in January or next summer.

Meslier is tipped to sign a new Leeds contract should the club get promoted, but likely to leave should they miss out.

Likewise, Kelleher might only be a realistic option for Leeds if they’re promoted, so there’s a lot of moving parts right now.

The latest on Meslier is that he’s wanted by Fiorentina. It’s also been revealed that neither Arsenal nor Manchester United want to sign a new goalkeeper in January, but that both could look for a no.2 next summer.

So any movement in the Leeds goalkeeper department, either in or out, looks like something for next summer rather than January.
