Leeds United picked up an eight consecutive Championship win with a hard-fought 2-0 victory at Plymouth Argyle.
In comparison to arguably their best display of the season at Swansea City on Tuesday, Leeds were a long way from that today but were still able to pick up another vital three points.
Willy Gnonto opened the scoring for the Whites inside the opening 10 minutes with his fifth goal in as many matches, before Georginio Rutter made sure of the points in the second half.
The former is currently playing with so much more confidence than this time a month ago, and that is reflected in the quality it took to bring down that pass from Rutter and slot in with his weaker foot.
Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds after the game, pundit Jon Newsome believes Gnonto has done enough to keep his place for next Friday night’s massive match with Leicester City.

“He took a gamble, that big high ball from Georginio Rutter, Gibson underneath it didn’t know how to deal with it and he was bright and alive. Touch wasn’t great but he was alive to the second ball and that’s what good players full of confidence do.
“They are ready to pounce on every opportunity. It wasn’t even a half chance but he makes something out of nothing. Unless there is something untoward happens, you would bet good money on Friday he is starting against Leicester.”
Dan James – who was crowned the Championship’s PFA Fans Player of the Month for January earlier this week – made his second appearance in a row today since returning from injury.
Even after enjoying such an impressive season so far, Gnonto is the one at the moment who deserves to keep his place. His run of form in front of goal has been very impressive.
That said, you can always rely on James to do his fair share of the workload from a defensive point of view, perhaps more so than Gnonto, which could be crucial in a match like this.
