Four former Leeds United right-backs are outperforming Jayden Bogle in the Championship this season

Jayden Bogle is without doubt, Leeds United’s first-choice right-back this season after joining the club from Sheffield United and so far, he has scored two goals from defence.

But it has not been plain-sailing. Bogle has been the source of criticism at times from a defending point of view, while excelling in the final third. Sheffield United expert Lee Connor told us to expect as much.

Even following Sunday’s win over Swansea, Tony Dorigo had some advice for Bogle. The Leeds icon was urging Bogle to “stop the cross”, before Swansea curled in a cross and Florian Bianchini made it 3-3.

Bogle was “all over the place” at Sheffield Wednesday, and Dorigo criticised Bogle for not closing down Luca Koleosho in the 1-0 loss to Burnley. He has five yellows and conceded a penalty against Portsmouth.

Jayden Bogle the seventh-best right-back in the Championship

So, where does Bogle compare to the other right-sided defenders in the Championship as things stand? In Bogle’s defence, he has played well on the whole and earned a solid FotMob rating of 7.16 so far.

Decent, given he is a player that has only just joined a new club and is less than 20 games into his Leeds career. But, six other right-backs are currently outperforming the £5m addition so far throughout 24-25.

Four former Leeds right-backs playing better than Bogle so far

Bogle has helped Leeds keep eight clean sheets in his 15 Championship outings, scoring in wins against Plymouth and QPR. But six others are better and four of those six have played for Leeds in the past.

Luke Ayling sits top, starring at Middlesbrough after turning his loan from Leeds permanent last summer. Hull captain Lewie Coyle and Cody Drameh are also above him, even if Drameh is playing on the left.

The other is Connor Roberts who of course is now a rival at Burnley, having spent the second half of last season at Leeds. He’s forming a partnership with Jaidon Anthony, another loanee at Elland Road last term.
