Leeds United suffered their first Championship defeat of the season to Burnley at Elland Road on Saturday as Luca Koleosho scored the only goal of the game in the first half.
Daniel Farke might actually be largely pleased with his side’s performance against a tough side that are expected to rival Leeds for a place in the top two. Scott Parker also has two Championship promotions.
Leeds dominated large moments of the match and had the best chances, but Mateo Joseph failed to score inside a minute after going through and Wilfried Gnonto came close on a couple of occasions.
But it ended in a 1-0 loss as Burnley’s rearguard kept Leeds out despite Farke bringing on the likes of Joel Piroe, Joe Rothwell, Ao Tanaka and Largie Ramazani. Koleosho scored the only goal of the game to win.
Dorigo questions Bogle decision making for Burnley goal
Manor Solomon’s slip saw Koleosho pick up the ball inside Burnley’s half, and drive towards the Leeds goal. Bogle chose not to engage as Leeds’ last man, in order to cut out the pass to a Burnley teammate.
However, Bogle chose to wait and wait before engaging Koleosho and finally came across too late as the 19-year-old Burnley ace slammed an effort into the far corner, giving Illan Meslier absolutely no chance.
Dorigo questioned Bogle’s delay on LUTV during commentary: “It’s an excellent finish from Koleosho. Yes, it is a slip. But the Burnley player had a long way to go before scoring. But Bogle waited and waited.
“I think he waited too long to come across and engage the ball. Struijk was just about getting back. There, he’s not even in sight. Eventually he does get there, but it is a really good finish,” Dorigo said, on Bogle.
Criticism of Bogle is not the first time this season, he’s struggling
When Bogle turned up in Germany as a new £5m signing for Leeds, many felt he was a bit of a bargain. Certainly, Sheffield United would have wanted more, had he had more than 12 months left on his deal.
Leeds took advantage and got him on the cheap. But judging by his recent performance, you would argue that maybe Leeds have overpaid for the defender with his defensive frailty on show at the moment.
Manager Farke has a decision to make with Isaac Schmidt and Sam Byram waiting. Indeed, criticism of Bogle is nothing new, with Andy Hinchcliffe saying Bogle was “all over the place” at Sheffield Wednesday.
