Leeds United secured their first win of the season on Friday night as they got the better of Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, but Jayden Bogle was under the microscope again.
Having gone winless in the first three games and The 49ers selling the likes of Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter, the pressure was on Daniel Farke to get a good result on Friday.
The signing of Largie Ramazani from Almeria has certainly improved the feeling among Leeds fans ahead of the clash against Danny Rohl’s side, who have made an up-and-down start to the 2024-25 season.
But Leeds built on the feel-good factor after the signing of Ramazani with a comfortable 2-0 win away from home, a copy of the same fixture last season as Brenden Aaronson and Dan James scored goals.
Andy Hinchcliffe not impressed by Jayden Bogle’s defending
Leeds got the first goal when Mateo Joseph laid on Brenden Aaronson to score, the American finishing well to score his second goal of the campaign. Immediately after the restart, Leeds nabbed a second.
Joseph the provider again, laying on a gorgeous through ball for James to score his first of 2024-25. But Wednesday did provide a threat with Anthony Musaba causing new signing Bogle issues in the first 45.
Musaba got in behind Bogle on six minutes and turned the £5m arrival inside out before his cross was blocked and Hinchcliffe criticised the right-back while on Sky Sports co-commentary duties.
“Bogle gets caught ball watching and he’s completely out of position, he has no idea where Gassama is and it’s poor defending, defensively all over the place is Bogle and he’s lucky Leeds can get the block in.”

Bogle has made mistakes in a Leeds shirt already. He was at fault for Portsmouth’s third on the opening day, as he conceded a penalty in the 3-3 draw and was hardly any better off the bench against Boro.
A clean sheet followed against West Brom but Bogle was shaky, diving into a slide tackle early on and earning himself a yellow card. There were signs of ball-watching and a lack of concentration on Friday.
LeedsUnited.News spoke to Sheffield United expert Lee Connor and Connor highlighted Bogle’s defensive concerns. Those are coming to light and Farke must address them sooner rather than later.
