Ethan Ampadu reacts to how he feels about Georginio Rutter leaving Leeds and whether he’ll stay in touch

Georginio Rutter’s move to Brighton from Leeds United stunned Daniel Farke’s squad and in part was to blame for the dismal showing against Middlesbrough, and Ethan Ampadu has commented.

Rutter, 22, not only remains Leeds‘ club-record signing but also became Brighton’s record transfer when The Seagulls activated his £40m release clause. He is in line to make his Brighton debut on the weekend.

Meanwhile, Leeds are in action against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night and will be without Rutter for a second game. The Whites have been busy in the transfer window, set to sign Largie Ramazani for £10m.

But the loss of Rutter has not only had a big impact on the pitch, but also off of it. A larger-than-life kind of character, losing the Frenchman is a huge loss for Leeds and one that requires replacing very soon.

Ampadu hopes to keep in contact with Rutter after Leeds exit

Joel Piroe played in the 10 role against West Brom and was heavily criticised for his lack of impact. A difficult job though, when trying to replace the quality and passion of Rutter in attacking midfield.

Leeds are expected to go after a replacement for Rutter in the final eight days of the transfer window. Brenden Aaronson meanwhile, could be given the nod to start as a 10 against Sheffield Wednesday.

Speaking to LUTV, Ampadu gave his thoughts on Rutter’s exit and says that it was “sad” to see Rutter go: “Of course, it’s sad to see Georgi leave. He was a massive character here and we wish him all the best.

“Hopefully, I can stay in contact with him but we’ve got such a talented squad here that it just gives someone else the chance to show what they can do,” Ampadu continued, when discussing Rutter’s exit.

Piroe doesn’t work, Aaronson doubts, Rothwell pushed higher?

While a new signing is expected to come in and replace Rutter like Ramazani will do to cover the loss of Crysencio Summerville, Leeds do have options in the current squad that can be used in the meantime.

Piroe doesn’t work in the 10 role. Farke’s insistence on playing the Dutchman behind the striker is odd and Piroe is a whole lot better playing between the width of the goal and scoring inside the penalty area.

Aaronson is naturally a 10 but the American is yet to remove the doubts over his physicality. Joe Rothwell could play as a 10 but he is better creating with a bit of space from deep. Leeds do need a new signing.
