Speculation that Leeds United could sack Daniel Farke is rife, with the club’s chairman now set to fly into the country to discuss the matter.

Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe is flying into the UK this week. He’ll watch Leeds United’s penultimate game of the season away at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday and then hold crunch talks with Daniel Farke abut the next steps.

Between the two, there may be no uncertainty that Farke stays. It’s been revealed that sources behind the scenes at Elland Road say Farke will stay at Leeds United going into the summer and next season.

That’s despite all the speculation that the German could be replaced following promotion to the Premier League. Now, we have several names linked with the Leeds United job including Roger Schmidt, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and Davide Ancelotti.

But rumours elsewhere, more so on social media than anywhere else, have suggested Steven Gerrard for Leeds United.

Simon Jordan tells Leeds United to ‘forget about it’ if they hire Steven Gerrard

Gerrard was linked with Leeds United before the club hired Farke in the summer of 2023. The former Liverpool and England legend is out of work once again after leaving Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq in January. Gerrard formerly managed both Rangers and Aston Villa.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Simon Jordan said of the Gerrard to Leeds United rumours: “If you’re telling me that you bring in Steven Gerrard to manage the situation, forget about it. In no parallel universe does Steven Gerrard merit managing Leeds United into the Premier League.

“He’s got no credentials. I don’t care what he won up in Scotland. We’ve seen Steven Gerard in the Premier League with Aston Villa… But if you bring in someone that’s got proven chops in the Premier League, then that’s a different argument entirely.”

Steven Gerrard’s Premier League record vs Daniel Farke’s

It’s widely known that Farke hasn’t got a great record when managing in the Premier League. But it’s also appreciated that he didn’t have it easy at all at Norwich City. In fact, Leeds United officials aren’t bothered by Farke’s Premier League record as they know he was dealt a tough hand.

Gerrard at Villa meanwhile had money to spend. He had a good team but he lasted just 40 games in the end, where he only won 13 of those games too.

Most Leeds United fans, if not all will agree with Jordan on the whole Gerrard debate. But until Marathe and Farke have their chats, nobody will truly know whether or not Farke will be in charge for next season.
