January could prove to be a crucial month to Leeds United’s automatic promotion hopes.
With the window now open again, Leeds could do with a couple of new signings in order to strengthen the squad, though it would not be a surprise to see some head for the exit door too.
Charlie Cresswell and Joe Gelhardt are among those attracting the most interest so far, however those currently out on loan could also look to use this month as a time to clarify their long-term futures.
Brenden Aaronson has been linked with an early return to Elland Road due to his struggles at Union Berlin, but one man who does not look like he will ever play for the club again is Robin Koch.
Koch is currently on a season-long-loan at Eintracht Frankfurt and according to Bild, they are now ready to offer him a permanent deal with the window open and his contract at Leeds expiring in the summer.
Koch to never play for Leeds again
Due to Koch’s contract situation, clubs as well as Frankfurt can now also start making their move to sign him on a free transfer ahead of the summer.
However, it is said that it would be a real surprise if Koch did not commit to signing for Frankfurt permanently, with the Bundesliga club ready to offer him a three-year-deal.
Koch has enjoyed a positive time at Frankfurt and even scored a stoppage time winner against Max Wober’s Borussia Monchengladbach in the final game before the winter break.
He had set himself a target of getting back into the Germany squad and was set to do so in November until an injury prevented him from featuring.
One thing is for sure, Koch will never play for Leeds again and it would now appear it is just a case of Frankfurt ensuring they sign him before anyone else can steel in.
