Leeds United are in the market for a new left-back this summer but it appears as though there is one target they can cross off the list.
Daniel Farke acknowledged as early as mid-December that Leeds would need to address the left side of their defence, due to the injury problems both Junior Firpo and Sam Byram have faced this season.
Firpo missed almost the entirety of the first half of the campaign, while Byram has either limped off or been absent for six of the last seven Championship matches.
Hellas Verona’s Josh Doig has been mentioned as a potential target for the Whites this month, but they now look as though they will lose out in the race to sign him.
According to Sky Sports, Marseille are now in advanced talks over a deal for Doig, pipping the likes of Leeds, Rangers and Torino to the Scottish youngster’s signature.

Gianluca Di Marzio has also provided some more information on the deal, stating that a transfer could be finalised as early as tonight, with Marseille having ramped up talks this week.
The Ligue 1 side look set to sign Doig for a bargain fee, too. It is said that they will not be paying more than £4.3 million, when the initial asking price had been closer to £5.5 million.
First knowledge of Marseille’s interest only became apparent a matter of days ago, and so they have clearly worked quickly to get this one over the line.
Whether Leeds were ever seriously interested is another question, particularly when you consider Angus Kinnear said back in September that loans would form the basis of the club’s January strategy.
Hopefully Leeds have other irons in the fire this month so they, once again, do not leave themselves short in the full-back position.
