Right now, the three promoted Championship sides in Burnley, Leeds United and Sunderland are holding their own in the Premier League.
After five games of the season, it’s Aston Villa, West Ham and Wolves who make up the Premier League‘s bottom three, whilst Burnley sit in 16th, Leeds United in 12th, and Sunderland in 7th.
All three teams spent well this summer with Leeds United spending £100million on new players, and all three are looking as though they could reverse the recent trend for promoted teams.
In the last two seasons, the three teams promoted from the Championship the season prior have all been relegated at the first time of asking.
But Burnley, Leeds and Sunderland are all earning praise for their performances and their bravery this season, with Leeds United beating Wolves 3-1 away from home in their last Premier League outing.

Darren Bent likes the look of Leeds United this season
Speaking on talkSPORT, pundit Darren Bent has issued praise for the three promoted teams, who all avoided defeat in their last league outing. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his first goal for Leeds United in the win at Wolves, whilst Sunderland drew with Aston Villa and Burnley drew with Nottingham Forest.
Bent said: “Fair play to the newly-promoted sides. Burnley, they’ve managed to nick a result from somewhere as well, unlucky against Liverpool. Sunderland who I spoke about have done really well and Leeds as well. I mean, I know one of those [results] were Wolves, but fair play to Leeds as well.
“So for the first time in, I think a few years, it’s not a foregone conclusion that the three teams that come up go back down.”
Danny Murphy still unconvinced by Leeds United
Whilst it’s still so early in the season, we’re starting to get a look into who might be near the top and bottom of the table this season. And so far for the three promoted sides, it’s a job well done.
But Danny Murphy thinks Leeds United will be relegated. He still thinks the Whites lack firepower, which many won’t argue, but many are now holding out hope that Calvert-Lewin can spark himself a run of scoring form after his goal at Wolves.
Murphy said this week: “I still think Leeds and Burnley will go. I think the biggest problem for Burnley and Leeds is firepower.”
Next up for Leeds is two tough games at Elland Road against Bournemouth this weekend, then Spurs.
As ever, we’ll find out a lot more about this Leeds United side and about Farke over the next few games, and big performances and results in these would certainly bode well.
