Former Premier League forward Danny Murphy remains unconvinced by Leeds United’s survival hopes despite their impressive win at Molineux.
The floodgates opened for Leeds in the rainy West Midlands as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Anton Stach and Noah Okafor all scored their first goals for the club.
Leeds’ win means their chances of being relegated have been slashed by the Opta Supercomputer, as the Whites continue to match the pace set by Marcelo Bielsa in 2020.
Daniel Farke will be particularly pleased with his side’s efficiency in front of goal, as Calvert-Lewin was praised for the way in which he took his goal.
However, Murphy remains unconvinced, pinpointing Leeds’ previous lack of goals as his main cause for concern.

Danny Murphy gives Leeds United relegation verdict
Speaking on Talksport’s White & Jordan show on the afternoon of the 22nd September, Murphy delivered his verdict on Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland’s survival hopes.
According to Murphy, although Leeds and Sunderland, in particular, have started the season well, he still believes that Farke will be unable to keep Leeds in the top flight. Murphy said, “I still think Leeds and Burnley will go.
“I think the biggest problem for Burnley and Leeds is firepower,” Murphy continued, “I agree with what we talked about earlier. I think all the newly promoted sides doing well is great for the Premier League.
“I’d like to see them all stay up, actually. But I don’t think it’ll be the case. Burnley struggled in front of goal. Leeds had only scored one, and that was a penalty, until Wolves kept giving them goals the other day. I like Leeds. Calvert-Lewin is a handful; that’s a great goal he got.”

Leeds United have already matched Southampton
Although Leeds are by no means safe after five games, their tally of seven points gives them a fighting chance of avoiding relegation.
In fact, their Anton Stach-inspired victory against Wolves means Leeds have already matched last season’s bottom-placed side, Southampton.
Wins by newly-promoted sides in the 24/25 Premier League season:
- Leicester City – 6
- Ipswich Town – 4
- Southampton – 2
Southampton sank back to the Championship without a trace last season, winning two games from 38 and accumulating just 12 points along the way. Ipswich Town and Leicester City fared marginally better, with four and six wins respectively, but both finished some distance from safety.
After just five games, Leeds already have 20% of third-bottom Leicester’s 25 points from last season. Although the relegation battle is expected to be more competitive this year, Farke has overseen a solid start.
