After snubbing potential Leeds United move this summer, £21m striker already has 10 goals in 25/26

Leeds United made a bid to sign Troy Parrott this summer. But the Irishman wanted to stay with current club AZ Alkmaar.

Troy Parrott is a name that many Football League followers will know, and one that Leeds United fans might remember from the very start of the summer transfer window.

For a few weeks, Parrott was linked with a move to Elland Road. There were even reports that Leeds United were plotting a £21million bid for Parrott at one point.

But Parrott said he wanted to stay at AZ Alkmaar after his breakthrough season at the club last time round. After joining from Spurs on a permanent deal, the Republic of Ireland international went on to score 20 goals in all competitions.

And he’s started this season in a similar, better vein of form for the Dutch side.

Previous Leeds United target Troy Parrott is on fire in 25/26

Parrott, 23, has been in red hot form for Alkmaar this season. In two Eredivisie games he has three goals, but in the Conference League he’s really been in form, with seven goals in five games during the qualification process earlier in the summer.

The former Spurs man scored back-to-back braces in qualifiers before then scoring another brace in the opening league match of the season, which Alkmaar won 4-1 against FC Groningen.

Under contract until 2029, the striker is currently injured having missed the last four. He’s suffered an unfortunate knee ligament injury but is expected to return in the next few weeks.

Robbie Keane is a huge fan of Troy Parrott

If ever there’s a striker who Parrott will want praise from, it’s perhaps Robbie Keane. A legend in the Premier League and on the national stage with Ireland, Keane previously heaped praise on Parrott and his performances with Alkmaar.

Keane said over the summer: “He has something different. He’s clever, difficult to play against. He can go in behind and he can come short. In ways, he’s very similar to me. The two of us weren’t the quickest but we’re sharp over 10, 15 yards. And then you see how his brain works on the football pitch.”

If Parrott enjoys another whirlwind season, when back from injury of course, then expect there to be another wave of transfer rumours during the next summer transfer window.

And of course, expect Leeds to be keeping close tabs on his progress. Leeds United arguably still need a striker or two and with Parrott having been on their radar, Daniel Farke may even look into a move in January.
