Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a huge talking point at Leeds United since arriving on a free transfer in the summer. Finally, he’s among the goals.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was released by Everton at the end of last season. It was perhaps time for him and Everton to part ways after nine years together, with 273 total appearances and 71 goals for the club.

The 28-year-old had also endured a tough few years in terms of injuries having struggled to put together a run of consistent games and goals, albeit playing 26 times in the league last season with three goals.

Leeds United fans were mixed over Calvert-Lewin’s arrival. Then, Calvert-Lewin endured a nightmare debut for Leeds United during the Carabao Cup defeat against Sheffield Wednesday. But he got underway against Wolves last time out.

Leeds United beat Wolves 3-1 in the Premier League as Calvert-Lewin scored his first for the club and Leeds’ first from open play this season, in a win that would’ve been a huge relief for Daniel Farke.

Danny Murphy and Simon Jordan say Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a threat for Leeds United

Few can deny the fact that Calvert-Lewin has been a good player at Premier League level for a long time. In 242 total games in the English top flight, he has 58 goals to his name and 18 assists too, and there were even times when Calvert-Lewin was being linked with some of the league’s top teams. Calvert-Lewin also boasts a strong record for England with four goals in 11 caps.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday, pundits Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy were discussing Calvert-Lewin’s form and his recent performance against Wolves. Both praised him and both suggested that he could be a key source of goals for Leeds United this season.

Jordan began: “Keep him fit. Keep his handbag out of a commission and he’ll score a few goals for you,” as Murphy added: “Calvert-Lewin’s a handful. That’s a great goal he got.”

The teams that wanted to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin is unbelievable

It was obvious that the big striker had other options this summer. In fact, Calvert-Lewin even admitted that he had other options, including teams competing in European football this season, but he opted for a move to Elland Road.

And this week, it was revealed that AC Milan were among the teams who wanted Calvert-Lewin before he moved to West Yorkshire, along with Newcastle United and Manchester United who have been a long-term suitor.

The fact that so may top teams were looking suggested that scouting networks agree that he remains a top player. Now, it’s a case of finding consistency in terms of fitness and then in terms of goals.

If he can do that then Leeds United might have enough firepower to keep themselves in the Premier League this season.
