Leeds United had their sights set on a number of players during the summer transfer window, one of which being Raphael Onyedika.
During the summer, Leeds United desperately needed central midfielders, and in the end Daniel Farke managed to sign Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff.
Perhaps another one would’ve been beneficial, as we’ve seen following recent injury spells for both Ao Tanaka and Ethan Ampadu, but right now, Leeds’ central options are solid.
Another name linked along with Stach and Longstaff in the summer was Raphael Onyedika. Leeds United were interested in signing Onyedika from Club Brugge but he remains in Belgium.
How long for, though, remains to be seen.

Leeds United transfer target Raphael Onyedika could leave in January
The race to sign Onyedika got very heated at one point with multiple teams in multiple different leagues trying to sign him. Fenerbahce had a bid rejected for Onyedika, whilst separate reports claimed that West Ham were leading Leeds United in the race, whilst Eintracht Frankfurt submitted a late, unsuccessful bid.
Now, an emerging report from Belgian outlet GVA has confirmed that Leeds United were among the teams looking at Onyedika in the summer. Interestingly, they add that his performance levels have increased since the summer, suggesting that he could now leave Club Brugge in January if he keeps up his current rate.
As further relayed by Sport Witness, GVA also reveal that Frankfurt were the team looking most likely to sign the 16-cap Nigerian international late in the window, but that the German side turned their attentions elsewhere in the late minute.

Leeds United’s January transfer plans – what we know so far
January is still a way off yet. But already there are links to a few players, Onyedika now being one, and with the games coming thick and fast, January will also rush up on Leeds United.
Last January, no new players arrived at Elland Road. And managing director Robbie Evans says Leeds United don’t want to do business in January this time round either, purely because they wanted to have done all their business in the summer.
Evans recently said: “Once we get through the first 10 games, you’re eight games from January. If you have to evaluate, we’ll use that; but our goal is to avoid January, if possible.
“There’s a reason we didn’t do a big thing in January last year or the year before. The goal is to be done early. Actually, we got all of our core guys done before the season even began, for that reason.”
But that can obviously change in the run up to January: a key injury or two or certain players not performing as expected can completely change Leeds United’s focus in the build up to January.
