Daniel Farke breaks silence on why he brought Manor Solomon off during Leeds United vs Blackburn

Many were perplexed as to why Daniel Farke chose to substitute Manor Solomon who was causing problems with the score at 0-0 against Blackburn on Wednesday night.

With Leeds United pushing for a winner Farke opted to take off Solomon for Patrick Bamford alongside the introductions of Mateo Jospeh and Wilfried Gnonto.

The decision left a lot of Leeds fans questioning the change in such a pivotal moment of the game, one of them being former Leeds player Tony Dorigo who was stunned at Farke’s choice.

Solomon himself was baffled by Farke’s decision, throwing his gloves to the ground in frustration.

A new revelation has come to light as to why the Leeds boss made the change which almost resulted in three points courtesy of Pascal Struijk if it wasn’t for Danny Batth’s late equaliser.

In a game of not much action, Solomon produced an excellent cross providing a real threat to Blackburn, but Daniel James couldn’t connect.

Soon after Solomon was substituted and Farke believed his change worked out and it was purely a change to his approach to the game.

Speaking to the YEP, Farke said: “We wanted to change the approach to two strikers in the box and to work a bit more with crosses.

“I wanted a left-footed player like Max [Wober] who can play wing-back. Manor naturally curls inside and goes for one-v-one situation. Obviously, it was the plan to have a left-footed player who was good with crosses and it paid off with the penalty situation.

“You have to keep in mind another game in three days and hopefully Manor is fit for this game again.

“Sometimes you have to substitute one or two players, and of course, they want to play each every minute. That’s quite normal.”

Daniel Farke could reap his rewards with fully-fit Manor Solomon against Hull City

Despite the negative reaction from the Tottenham loanee, Solomon posted a fairly neutral response and chose to move on, and may see the positives in Saturday’s fixture against Hull City.

Solomon has only completed one 90 minutes since joining Leeds on loan from Spurs in August, playing every minute in Leeds’ 3-0 victory against Luton Town.

His reaction may have even come as a surprise to Farke with the winger normally being substituted around the 70th minute mark.

Nonetheless, judging by Solomon’s start at Elland Road this minimal amount of resting time gives him more time to stay fit and not pick up another injury in such a crucial time for Farke’s side.

A key asset for Leeds and Farke may have made the right choice to take off Solomon in the grand scheme of things considered.
