Patrick Bamford may steal the headlines after scoring the winner to beat Norwich, but Archie Gray produced a moment just as important in the second half – and Daniel Farke described it as “perfect”.
Bamford, 30, managed to hand in the air and meet Dan James‘ cross with perfection. Using all of his experience, he directed the ball back across Angus Gunn into the corner, nestling perfectly in the net.
But Leeds had to endure difficult moments during the game and Norwich could quite easily have scored as Leeds pushed for a second – rather than holding onto the lead. Norwich pushed in the second half.
The Canaries broke in the second half and at one point, it looked like it was going to be a three vs three situation. But Gray got back into position, stopping Adam Idah before he could unleash a shot at goal.
Farke was asked about Gray in his post-match press conference – as per Leeds Live – and he spoke highly of the teenager. He said his defending in that crucial moment was “perfect”, on Wednesday night.
“Archie is brilliant. Everyone praises him so I don’t need to. He has to keep going. The biggest threat in the second half was when we lost the second ball after set-piece,” Farke said, as quoted by Leeds Live.
“Great counter for them, Archie recovered the ball in the perfect way. So mature in how he approaches the game. Physicality is great at 17,” Farke continued on the Leeds teen, who recently signed a new deal.

It was a brilliant bit of defending and a sign that not only is Gray incredibly athletic and able to get back into his position in time – but also, that he has learned a great deal defensively from playing right-back.
If Leeds do sign a right-back, which we need to do, the incoming man is going to have some job in dis-placing Gray from the starting XI. Farke spoke after the match about the knock he received, late on.
