The new names keep on coming as Leeds United look set to enter the January transfer window despite Daniel Farke telling reporters to expect a quiet month in the market.

Daniel Farke claimed January would be quiet for Leeds. But reports have since claimed that Leeds would like to strengthen four areas of the squad by signing a centre-back, a full-back, a midfielder and a striker.

In the last few days, Leeds have opened talks for Andrew Omobamidele. Leeds have also been linked with Coventry’s Ben Sheaf, while Gladbach star Nico Elvedi is said to prefer a move to Elland Road over Wolves.

Another player could now reunite with Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson at Leeds, having played with the duo at Red Bull Salzburg. Mergim Berisha is being linked with Leeds as he struggles at Hoffenheim.

Brenden Aaronson and Mergim Berisha combined for six months

Berisha left Salzburg in the summer of 2021 for Fenerbahce, after having a hand in 36 goals during the 2020-21 season. Midway through that campaign, Salzburg signed Aaronson from Philadelphia Union.

Just half a season in the same side, but Aaronson and Berisha struck up a quick partnership that helped Jesse Marsch’s Salzburg win the Austrian Bundesliga that season – one of four trophies as Salzburg boss.

Berisha created Aaronson’s goal in a 3-1 win over Austria Vienna in February 2021, and again in a 3-1 win over Sturm Graz in May. Aaronson repaid Berisha by creating two of three in a 4-0 win against WSG Tirol.

What Mergim Berisha has done to secure January exit this month

The two-time Germany international joined Hoffenheim from Augsburg for a fee of £11.6m in 2023 and it looked like decent business from Hoffenheim. But, Berisha picked up a serious long-term knee injury.

It has seen Berisha manage just one goal in 24 appearances over the last 18 months. Hoffenheim are keen to send him out on loan to a foreign side and Leeds are said to be keen on luring him to Elland Road.

Berisha has changed agents this month in order to secure a January exit as he looks to get his career back on track. But, is the former Salzburg man really the answer? He hardly starts above Joel Piroe for Leeds.
