At the moment, Leeds United have eight players currently out on loan after agreeing three more temporary spells following five loan exits in the summer window.
Jack Harrison and Rasmus Kristensen had the chance to re-activate their relegation loan clauses put in their contracts by Victor Orta. Harrison returned to Everton and Kristensen join Robin Koch’s Frankfurt.
Darko Gyabi returned to Plymouth having spent the second half of the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Wayne Rooney’s new side, while Sam Greenwood left for a second time – this time going to Preston.
Sonny Perkins has two goals in two at boyhood club Leyton Orient in League One. Since the closure of the summer window, three more have left in Joe Richards and Cian Coleman to South Shields and Buxton.
Leeds United make Tuesday announcement on gem Luca Thomas
Luca Thomas made a super start to the 2024-25 season. Thomas was one of six players to go to Germany with the senior Leeds side in pre-season, before starring for Scott Gardner’s U21 side in the first matches.
Indeed, Thomas was at the top of the PL2 rankings for Leeds U21’s before joining York City on a short loan. Thomas scored on his debut for Adam Hinshelwood’s promotion-chasing National League side.
Now, Leeds have confirmed that Thomas has extended his loan with second-placed side York until the new year. He is yet to add to his debut goal but York have seen enough to decide to extend the loan.
Crucial months for Luca Thomas with Leeds future in balance
Leeds are well-stocked up top, but that could change. Joe Gelhardt is likely to be one player to leave in January on loan if not permanently, while Graham Smyth expects Patrick Bamford to depart next summer.
There is a chance for Thomas to break into the senior side at Leeds, if Farke thinks he is good enough. The next couple of months with York, then, gives Thomas the chance to show Leeds what he is capable of.
Not only that, but Thomas is out of contract at Leeds at the end of the season and if he is to win himself a new Elland Road deal, he really must get his name on the score sheet a few more times before January.
