Leeds United could be set to meet an arch enemy in the form of Frank Lampard after the new year with the manager set to take over at a Championship rival this week.
Leeds have already played against Coventry City this season, beating the Sky Blues 3-0 at Elland Road. This is a Coventry side that reached the semi-finals of last season’s FA Cup, losing to Manchester United.
Coventry have made a poor start to the season and decided to sack long-standing boss Mark Robins to the bemusement of many, and not just Coventry fans. Lampard was instantly linked with the Coventry job.
Not only would the next Coventry manager face Leeds in February, but the next Coventry manager could now do Leeds a favour with their next two games against promotion rivals Sheffield United and Burnley.

Leeds United fans react as Frank Lampard closes in on Coventry
Sky Sports News reported on Tuesday that Lampard is closing in on the Coventry job with talks at an advanced stage. That is despite Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy applying for the job.
Leeds’ rivalry with Lampard is an obvious one. Not least because of his Chelsea playing days, but because of his role in Spygate alongside Marcelo Bielsa and then his Derby side beating Leeds in the play-offs.
Leeds fans reacted on X, following the news that Lampard could now take over at Coventry:
One supporter reacted in similar vein, posting: “Pray for Coventry City”. Another actually felt some sympathy towards Coventry fans, saying: “I feel sorry for them”.
Among many other Leeds fans laughing at the news, another simply put “poor Coventry”. One Leeds fan went further, and described it as an “awful appointment”.
What has been said about Lampard since Spygate involvement
Lampard has said since that he wasn’t bothered by the Spygate scandal. Something which came as a surprise, given his clear anger at the time – and in the celebrations after beating Leeds in the play-offs.
Leeds of course, have their own song for Lampard to the tune of Oasis’ Stop Crying Your Heart Out. Leeds striker Patrick Bamford has recalled a phone call between Lampard and Bielsa, with Lampard “angry”.
But now, Leeds and Lampard look set to meet again when The Whites go to Coventry in February. No doubt, Leeds fans will have plenty of songs to sing when Daniel Farke looks to do the double over them.
