Why Connor Roberts will not feature in either of Leeds United’s next two matches

Leeds United sealed the signing of Connor Roberts from Burnley late last night.

The Whites waited right until the very last moments of the window to make their first foray into the market, with Roberts’ announcement coming right on the 11pm deadline.

Roberts has made the move to Elland Road on a straight loan deal until the end of the season, though has already expressed his hopes of joining the club permanently in the summer.

The 28-year-old will be arriving just as Leeds start one of their toughest schedules of the season, with a busy month of action ahead which includes away matches at Plymouth Argyle (twice), Bristol City and former club Swansea City.

However, according to Leeds Live, Roberts will have no involvement in either of Leeds’ next two matches, meaning he will have to wait until next Saturday for his debut against Rotherham United at Elland Road.

Roberts to miss next two Leeds matches

The report states that Roberts will not be rushed down to Bristol tonight to thrown straight into the action, which is probably for good reason.

He will have had an extremely long day yesterday of completing all the formalities involved with a transfer, while it was only Wednesday night when he played 30 minutes at Manchester City for Burnley.

However, Roberts will also be unavailable for Leeds’ FA Cup replay away at Plymouth. This is because he was not originally registered for the first match last weekend.

If Leeds were to progress into the fifth round, Roberts would then actually be available as he played no involvement in Burnley’s FA Cup campaign, meaning he is not cup-tied.

Thankfully for Leeds, Archie Gray’s injury against Norwich City was not serious and he is therefore back in contention to start tonight, as Roberts prepares for a week of training before his first matchday involvement.
