‘Maybe’… 28-year-old is already suggesting there’s a chance he could be at Leeds United next season

Leeds United are in for a busy summer transfer window regardless of the division they are in.

The Whites currently have three players in the squad who are on loan deals without options-to-buy, while there are also several who will need their futures resolving when they return from their respective loan spells away from the club.

Those behind-the-scenes are already likely to be laying the groundwork for some of those deals. For example, Luis Sinisterra is likely to seal a permanent switch to Bournemouth in the coming days.

However, one player currently on loan at Leeds has seemingly made it clear that he would also like to be at Elland Road next season is their most recent and only January signing – Connor Roberts.

Following the announcement of his signing yesterday, Roberts told the Athletic that he is looking to show how good he can be so his move can be ‘changed from a straight loan’ in the summer.

Roberts already eyeing permanent Leeds move

He said: “It’s something I couldn’t turn down. Football’s a funny game so I’ll be doing my very best to make a good impression on and off the pitch and maybe in the future it can change from a straight loan.

“At the moment, it’s just about coming here and trying to help. To be a bit-part player for Burnley this year has been a slight disappointment.”

There is a chance Leeds could actually switch divisions with Roberts’ parent club for a second season in a row, with Burnley very much in the fight for relegation, and the Whites pushing for promotion.

Roberts is a proven performer at this level and was named in the Championship’s team of the season last year following his contribution to Burnley’s title winning campaign.

However, Roberts was very much more of a bit-part player in the Premier League this season which opened the door for him to seal an exit, and he will be hoping he can prove that was the wrong decision.
