Leeds United’s upcoming summer transfer window promises to be a hectic one, no matter the outcome of their season. Inevitably, there’ll be discussions about Wilfried Gnonto’s future at the club.
Leeds United are certainly on track to return to the Premier League after what would be a two year hiatus. Danie Farke has the Whites sitting pretty at the top of the Championship table, and a win over 4th place on Sunderland on Monday night would put them a step closer to the top flight.
Everyone is really pulling together at Elland Road right now. Farke has unearthed a couple of wing wizards in Dan James and Manor Solomon, but those out of the XI right now are still chipping in, including Wilfried Gnonto.
Despite having played a bit part role this season, the Italian has managed 30 Championship appearances in 2024/25, scoring five and assisting five more in 18 starts. Inevitably, there’s speculation that Gnonto could leave Elland Road amid this lack of starts, with interest emerging on deadline day.
It wad recently claimed that Gnonto has interest from Saudi Arabia and that Leeds United value him at a staggering £50million. Now, there’s fresh insight on the 21-year-old’s future in West Yorkshire.

Wilfried Gnonto facing possible Leeds United exit with Everton interested
An emerging report from TeamTalk has revealed the latest on Gnonto’s Leeds future. They write that ‘there is a possibility Gnonto leaves Leeds this summer’, with the former FC Zurich attacker ‘unhappy’ at playing second fiddle to the likes of James and Solomon this season.
The same report does add that ‘Gnonto is not willing to rock the boat and is unlikely to push for a move’, but that the Italian international ‘could yet move on if a presentable offer arrives’. Interestingly, TeamTalk add that Everton remain keen on Gnonto, who also has admirers in La Liga and Serie A.
Gnonto joined Leeds United from Zurich in a £3.8million deal in the summer of 2022 and he remains under contract until the summer of 2028.

What Daniel Farke thinks of Wilfried Gnonto at Leeds United this season
Gnonto’s situation has certainly been a key talking point this season. His numbers and some of his performances suggest he should be starting, but there’s simply no dropping either James or Solomon right now.
Speaking earlier in the season, Farke gave his verdict on Gnonto’s situation at Elland Road, and on why he’s not starting games so much. The German said: “He has my trust. Sometimes in the Championship, you have a dip in form – you can’t play all 46 games. I am happy with his development, he is taking more responsibility and becoming more professional.
“He is not as static, much more involved. Much more lively and adventurous, he’s become less predictable compared to last season. The only that is lacking is end product but that is something he can add.”
Leeds United return to Championship action on Monday night against Sunderland. Gnonto may well feature off the bench and if the game’s deadlocked late on, he could play a decisive role in the outcome.
