There has been another update in Leeds United’s transfer deadline day pursuit of Cameron Archer.
It’s been a deathly quiet January transfer window for Leeds United, with striker Joe Gelhardt’s loan switch to Hull City the only significant change to the squad.
Daniel Farke had set low expectations ahead of the window opening by repeatedly stating he was satisfied with his squad which sits at the top of the Championship table.
However, with title rivals Burnley and Sheffield United strengthening considerably this month, Leeds have at least looked to bring in some additional firepower.
Moves for playmakers Emi Buendia and Louie Barry were unsuccessful so attention was shifted to a striker in the form of Cameron Archer towards the end of last week.
Leeds had an initial loan bid rejected for the Southampton striker but have continued to push for the signing deep into deadline day.
They have had no success yet and, with the hours ticking closer to the 11 pm deadline, there has been another setback.

Is Cameron Archer flying to Leeds?
Leeds fans have been hoping to see their club make a late move on deadline day and excitement grew on social media at around 2:30 pm when eagle-eyed supporters made an interesting discovery.
X account @LUFCFANZ0NE spotted that a private jet had been scheduled to take off from Leeds Bradford airport at 4 pm heading to Bournemouth, close to Southampton, before flying back an hour later.
Fans immediately speculated that the flight was Leeds’ doing as they moved to get Archer up to Yorkshire as quickly as possible before the window closes
However, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth shared an update and revealed the truth behind the rumours.
He said on X: “And the Bournemouth flight was not LUFC related. Quiet evening expected…”
Leeds United rejected Mateo Joseph bid from Real Betis
Leeds fans are no strangers to being left underwhelmed on transfer deadline day and old fears may have emerged when Mateo Joseph’s future came into question.
News broke earlier on deadline day that La Liga side Real Betis had made a bid for striker Joseph, who scored in the 7-0 thrashing of Cardiff on Sunday.
Thankfully, as Smyth also shares, Leeds did not entertain the offer. The journalist also posted: “Leeds United have confirmed there was interest in Mateo Joseph from Spanish clubs in the window and Real Betis did make a £10m-plus bid at the weekend. Rejected.”
Not signing Archer, or any striker, would be disappointing enough but to sell one instead? That would be rage-inducing.
