Suggestion made that Leeds have just made last minute bid to hijack £3m Sheffield United deal

Leeds United are reportedly looking to inflict some more pain on Sheffield United in the transfer market.

The Whites have already signed one of their most impressive performers from a dismal 2023/24 campaign in Jayden Bogle, and now could be about to hijack one of their top targets.

Bogle arrived for £5 million from the Blades over the weekend in a deal that seemingly left manager Chris Wilder fuming, having ran down to the final 12 months of his deal.

Having said that, Sheffield United have managed to get the better of Leeds on a couple of occasions, first managing to persuade Jamie Shackleton to reject a new deal and move to South Yorkshire.

They also won the race to sign Callum O’Hare on a free transfer having reportedly offered the former Coventry City star a better financial package than Leeds.

Leeds reportedly hijack Blades bid for Harrison Burrows

One of Sheffield United’s long-term targets of the summer has been Peterborough United left-back Harrison Burrows.

Burrows has been linked with a move to Bramall Lane throughout the summer but the ongoing takeover issues has meant a deal has been unable to go through.

However, it was reported earlier this week they finally managed to make a breakthrough with Posh in a permanent deal worth £3 million, even scheduling him in for a medical, as per the Sheffield Star.

According to LUFC Fan Zone, though, Blades’ deal for Burrows may be the subject of an 11th hour hijack from Leeds, suggesting they have now matched their bid.

This comes after Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony was discussing Burrows’ future live on talkSPORT earlier this morning.

He revealed that bids had been accepted by a ‘couple’ of Championship sides and it was now down to Burrows himself to make a decision.

Journalist Alex Crook then responded by saying that Sheffield United had done some good business this summer, in which MacAnthony said that Leeds had done so too.

Would Burrows replace Firpo?

Providing Sam Byram is in the squad as cover for new signing Bogle at right-back, Leeds only have one recognised left-back in the squad in Junior Firpo.

Given his history of injury issues, Leeds would be wise to bring in some competition for the 27-year-old, and amid a return of 16 assists last season, Burrows would certainly do that.

However, it certainly does pose the question of whether it could lead to Firpo’s departure, amid reported interest from former club Real Betis.

It would be excellent to have both as options over a 46 game season but whether Burrows would be happy to come in as second choice remains to be seen.
