With just over a fortnight to go until the Premier League opener against Everton, time is now ticking for Leeds United with the club still in need of a new striker and a left-sided winger.

Beren Cross has told The Square Ball that actually, Leeds could still bring in four new additions before the close of play on September 1. Daniel Farke would surely prefer all of his signings in before August 18.

But, Adam Underwood has been praised in his new role as sporting director having struck deals for seven players so far, including big-name signings like goalkeeper Lucas Perri and midfielder Anton Stach.

However, Farke made it clear on Saturday the need for attacking signings. But one option that has been linked with a move to Elland Road is no longer a possibility, after he joined a direct Premier League rival.

Premier League club announces striker linked with Leeds move

Callum Wilson confirmed his exit from Newcastle earlier this summer, with the England international coming to the end of his contract. The former Bournemouth man has been linked with many clubs.

Leeds have been strongly linked with Wilson and at one stage this summer, it was claimed that Wilson was ‘hoping’ Leeds would make a call and offer him a pay-as-you-play deal to land the free agent.

But now, Wilson has completed a free transfer to West Ham this summer. The striker has signed a one-year deal with West Ham, bolstering Graham Potter’s options up top ahead of the 2025-26 season.

The situation up front for Leeds going into final pre-season game

Leeds have been left with two strikers. Patrick Bamford has been told he needs to leave the club and has no future at Elland Road, while Mateo Joseph has told Farke he wants to leave Leeds in the coming weeks.

That leaves Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha, with Piroe scoring again on Saturday in the 1-1 draw against Villarreal. Piroe is certainly making his efforts known, having won the initial bleep test this summer.

But Leeds, of course, need more up front and Farke has made that clear. A starting striker and possibly, another one to provide cover. Harry Gray though, could be given a little promotion from the U21 squad.
