Premier League club make official announcement on Leeds United target, it’s not good news

It doesn’t appear that Leeds United will be making any major moves in the early stages of the transfer window.

Daniel Farke will want to hit the ground running with landing signings, but the cut-off on June 10th disrupts things.

Leeds need a major overhaul within the squad to compete in the Premier League, but the future looks bright.

It’s claimed that Leeds don’t have to worry about PSR with future windows presenting plenty of freedom for the hierarchy.

Freedom might be there, but their ability to convince players might not be, and one target has just had a vital announcement.

Announcement made on Leeds United target Callum Wilson

The Whites are in desperate need of a striker next season, with Farke unsure on the reliability of Joel Piroe.

Piroe scored 19 goals in the Championship last season, but also lacked a finishing touch at times, with Leeds fans wanting Patrick Bamford to start.

Nevertheless, he ended the season strongly, but that might not have convinced Farke and co to give him a starting chance in the Premier League.

This has opened the door for the Whites to sign an experienced top-flight striker, with Callum Wilson in the frame for Leeds.

It will be another saga which could see the Whites have a battle on their hands with Everton also interested in Wilson, but that may not even matter after a recent announcement from Newcastle United.

The latest statement on Newcastle’s retained list reads: “Callum Wilson and John Ruddy are set to be out of contract at the end of June, however, the club has opened discussions with both players about their futures, and new contracts could still be agreed.”

Leeds might dodge a bullet after Wilson news

Although there is a chance for the Whites to land a striker who knows the Premier League inside out, they might have dodged a bullet here.

The 33-year-old is known to be a lethal finisher on his day, and 88 goals in the top flight exemplifies that, but his unreliability is known.

Even though Piroe is unreliable, he stays fit, which is something Wilson struggles with, especially in the season just gone.

This should have already sent a red flag to the Leeds hierarchy, who would be paying excessive wages for someone who is at risk of suffering a blow.

Leeds had started talks with Wilson, but the striker could opt to stay on Tyneside this summer, and that wouldn’t be the end of the world.
