Leeds United could be alerted to a market opportunity with one of their midfield targets from last summer having cancelled his contract at his current club.

Having began their late window recruitment drive with the signing of UD Almeria’s Largie Ramazani, Leeds are still on the hunt for three more signings.

While everyone seems to be focusing on who will replace Georginio Rutter, central midfield and full-back still also remain positions of interest.

A new attack-minded number eight to partner Ethan Ampadu is actually very important Leeds get right, with Joe Rothwell clearly having been brought in as depth and Ilia Gruev just not comfortable in that role.

Considering the money brought in from other player sales, Leeds’ decision to sell Glen Kamara has come more into question recently, particularly after such an impressive Rennes debut.

Leeds target Edouard Michut now available for free

The strongest midfielder link at Elland Road this summer has been FC Koln’s Dejan Ljubicic, with Leeds seeing a £3.3 million offer turned down in July.

Leeds have not returned with a second bid but a move certainly cannot be ruled out, with Ljubicic reportedly keen on the move.

In that time, Leeds will have undoubtedly been assessing other options and in the last 48 hours, may have just been alerted to a major market opportunity.

Leeds were keen on a deal for PSG midfielder Edouard Michut last summer but were unable to get a deal over the line, as he joined Turkish side Adana Demirspor instead.

However, according to RMC Sport, Michut has decided to terminate his contract at Demirspor due to unpaid salaries, meaning he is now on the market as a free agent.

As per the report, an unnamed Championship club is now pushing hard to convince Michut to return to England, having spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Sunderland.

After interest last summer, it really would not be a surprise if this was the route Leeds went down, as it would save a little bit of cash and allow them to spend big on a Rutter replacement.

Michut would be a great signing for Leeds

Though not quite the goal-scoring midfielder Daniel Farke is looking for, Michut would be a good signing for Leeds in that number eight role.

The 21-year-old would be able to provide that link between the midfield and attack which was sorely lacking at West Bromwich Albion thanks to his comfort at taking the ball in good areas.

Michut has also proven he’s got what it takes to stand up to the physicality of this league from his time at Sunderland.

Sunderland had been keen to sign him permanently for £2.2 million last summer and so for him now to be available for nothing makes him a very attractive possibility.
