Mergim Berisha update from reliable German source amid Leeds United interest

Leeds United will be searching for competition this January in the striking department as Daniel Farke looks to strengthen his squad.

Leeds are linked to Hoffenheim striker Mergim Berisha as a potential striker option in the January transfer window.

However, Leeds sources say Berisha links are ‘merely’ rumours and shouldn’t be taken too concretely.

After Farke claimed Leeds would have a quiet window, it’s been anything but that judging by transfer rumours surrounding Elland Road.

Berisha could still be a decent addition to Daniel Farke’s plans, but new interest has developed in the 26-year-old’s services.

Mergim Berisha has no future at TSG Hoffenheim

Leeds bid for Berisha during Jesse Marsch’s tenure, but a deal never came to fruition and now it seems as though it may not this time either.

Sky Germany journalist, Florian Plettenberg has stated that the German striker has ‘no future’ at Hoffenheim and is expected to leave the club in January.

Discussions are said to be ongoing for the capture of Berisha as Werder Bremen remains an option for his next venture with the Bundesliga side inquiring about Berisha’s services.

Berisha joined Hoffenheim for £11.6m in the summer of 2023 but hasn’t quite hit the ground running as his goalscoring form is lacking.

With just one goal in 24 games, Werder Bremen’s interest could be a blessing in disguise for Leeds.

Leeds may dodge a bullet with Berisha deal

Leeds are seeking four new signings in January with a striker labelled as a target for Daniel Farke.

Berisha hasn’t exactly set the world alight over in Germany and has thus far only really impressed during his stint with SCR Altach and RB Salzburg, where he was a former teammate of Salzburg trio Brendan Aaronson, Max Wober, and Rasmus Kristensen.

Instead of Berisha, Leeds should look elsewhere to find the striker they are searching for to compete with Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph.

Emmanuel Latte Lath has been considered by Leeds in what could be a statement signing in the Championship and would give Leeds a huge boost in promotion back to the Premier League.

If Leeds do lose out on Berisha it wouldn’t take the Leeds owners too long to set their eyes on a new target.
