Leeds United target Mehdi Taremi has a clear preference over his next transfer move, according to reports in Italy.

Daniel Farke has made Leeds’ need for attacking reinforcements clear as the Whites prepare to make their return to the Premier League.

After United’s long-running pursuit of Rodrigo Muniz failed to bear fruit, they have turned their attentions to alternative targets and are pursuing several options, including Roma’s Artem Dovbyk.

Iranian international Mehdi Taremi is another name linked with a move to Elland Road, as his time at Inter Milan comes to an end. Now, Taremi’s preference for his next move has been revealed as his future edges closer to a resolution.

Mehdi Taremi has a clear transfer preference amid Leeds United interest

According to a report in TMW, Taremi has expressed a clear preference to remain in Europe for his next move.

In a boost to the likes of Leeds and Nottingham Forest, Taremi has rejected a move to South America to join Flamengo. The report states: “[Taremi’s] agents and intermediaries are working to find him a place in Europe, as this is his wish, as evidenced by the fact that he turned down Flamengo.

“Leeds, Fulham, and Nottingham Forest are interested in him, but in the last few hours, Ligue 1 club Nice have also made a move.”

Nice’s entry into the race could present a challenge for Leeds and their Premier League rivals, as they can offer Champions League football to the wantaway Inter man. Nice finished fourth in Ligue 1 last season and will enter the qualifying rounds of the UCL.

How does Mehdi Taremi compare to Dominic Calvert-Lewin?

With the new season rapidly approaching, and Leeds still without the new number nine they so desperately crave, England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin is another name linked with the Whites.

Whilst no deal has been completed for either striker, it is clear that Leeds have a certain profile in mind, having prioritised height and power with their other new signings. Both Taremi and Calvert-Lewin are 1.87 metres tall, or six feet and two inches, and would provide a powerful physical presence up front.

At 28 years old, Calvert-Lewin has youth on his side, but the 33-year-old Iranian has been more prolific across his career, with 202 goals in 445 games, compared to Calvert-Lewin’s 89 in 325.

With Mateo Joseph now gone and Patrick Bamford expected to follow, Leeds risk going into the season with few options in attack. They have to get this signing right, having done such good business elsewhere in the window.
