While Leeds United are not expected to be particularly busy in the January window, Daniel Farke may be forced to delve into the market if a couple of his players leave.

The Leeds manager has already dampened the excitement of the transfer window opening, when asked about the window in his press conference last week. Farke says he expects January to be quiet for Leeds.

However, a handful of Leeds players are being linked with the exit door. Joe Gelhardt wants to leave in the search of game time, with the likes of Rangers and numerous Championship clubs eyeing a deal.

Max Wober’s old club Salzburg are keen, while Wolves have been touted as a possible move for Wober. Then, on the weekend, Glen Kamara’s Rennes were linked with a move to sign Leeds’ Illan Meslier.

Leeds United fans react as Rennes consider Illan Meslier move

Rennes need to replace Steve Mandanda with the 39-year-old set to leave at the end of the season, and the Ligue 1 side have two goalkeepers on their shortlist in Leeds’ Meslier and PSV’s Walter Benitez.

Leeds fans reacted to the news that Rennes want Meslier. There is a feeling of frustration with Meslier among the Whites fanbase, and amid the news Rennes are interested, many are open to Meslier going.

One Leeds follower posted “yes please” and that Leeds should be doing “everything to speed up the transfer”. Another said that Rennes can “have him” and urged Leeds to sign a “competent, class keeper”.

Stoke City’s goalkeeper Viktor Johansson was suggested by one fan in response to the news Meslier could leave, with Johansson linked with Leeds before. He said: “Let him go. Sign Stoke’s keeper.”

If Meslier does go and Kamara has played a part in a move, one fan says it is the “best thing” Kamara has done for Leeds. Basically, Leeds fans want their club to “sell” Meslier if Rennes do come calling.

Why Leeds fans are disillusioned with Illan Meslier this term

On the face of things, Meslier sits joint-first in the Championship with 11 clean sheets alongside Burnley ace James Trafford and Sheffield United’s Michael Cooper. He won the league’s golden glove last term.

But delve a little deeper, and it is easy to see why Leeds fans are keen for Meslier to go. Cooper and Trafford sit top of the Championship’s stats in terms of shots saved, while Meslier is way down in 13th.

The chances of Leeds conforming to the idea of selling Meslier remains to be seen but given he was only bought for £5m, there is a chance of profit which would aid Financial Fairplay, something that might tempt The 49ers.
