Leeds United failed in their attempts to sign Harry Wilson in the summer, but could they return for the Fulham star in the January transfer window? LeedsUnitedNews have been exclusively told the chances.
It was a disastrous transfer deadline day for Leeds United and the club are feeling the impact of it now as they sit just one point above the Premier League relegation zone, struggling to score goals.
Daniel Farke desperately wanted to add another creative attacker to his arsenal before the summer transfer window closed, but the club hierarchy failed to deliver.
Facundo Buonanotte was swooped up by Chelsea at the last minute as the window drew to a close, then Harry Wilson emerged as the alternative on deadline day.
Leeds appeared to be closing in on signing Wilson, but Fulham pulled the plug on the deal at the 11th hour to leave Farke with a gaping hole in his squad.
Some have hoped Leeds would reignite their interest in Wilson once the transfer window opens again in the new year, but LeedsUnitedNews has been exclusively told that won’t be the case.

Leeds United won’t be signing Harry Wilson in the January transfer window
Leeds have already been linked with a host of players ahead of the January transfer window, with new recruits needed amid their struggles, with Wilson a name that has refused to go away.
However, LeedsUnitedNews transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed that Wilson won’t be going to Leeds next year, or anywhere if he has his own way.
When asked if there was any chance Fulham would allow Wilson to join Leeds in January, Bailey said: “Not in the slightest.
“I’m told Wilson wants a new deal with Fulham. I think it’s a non-starter at the minute.”
Wilson has started all but three, one of which he was injured for, Premier League games for Fulham this season, scoring two goals.
The Welshman’s current contract is set to expire in the summer after signing a one-year extension in May.
Leeds United need a creative midfielder in the January transfer window
Leeds have only managed to score 10 Premier League goals this season. Only rock-bottom Wolves have scored fewer, while their joint-top scorers, Joe Rodon and Noah Okafor, sit on two apiece.
It’s all well and good being more solid and combative in the Premier League, but if you don’t score enough goals, you’re not going to get enough points for survival, with Opta now predicting Leeds will be relegated.
It’s obvious Leeds need attacking reinforcements in January, even if Robbie Evans says the club has maxed out their PSR legroom.
A striker will have to be signed, but a playmaker might actually be more important, as Leeds aren’t creating enough chances for the strikers in the first place.
Farke knew that in the summer and has been let down by the recruitment team. The manager has wanted Emi Buendia for approaching a year and his recent form suggests it would have been a smart signing.
The issue for Leeds now is, what options are available to fill the role? FC Midtjylland’s Franculino and young Brazilian playmaker Jhon Jhon are both on the radar, but the shortlist doesn’t seem to be a long one yet.
Leeds have seven weeks to get their plans in order before the window opens on New Year’s Day.
