Leeds United fans would love to see Man United crumbling at any opportunity, but a player they were tipped to sign shined on the big stage.
The 49ers will want to make sure they get everything right in the next transfer window, whether Leeds are in the Premier League or not.
After a quiet January, it’s now getting to the time when summer additions are being discussed.
One of which is Manor Solomon, as Leeds want to sign Solomon permanently, but it seems as though promotion remains a big factor in that saga.
Another player they should’ve signed previously outclassed Man United on the weekend, as he would no doubt make for a key member of Daniel Farke’s squad.

This now seems like an unlikely scenario with Marco Silva’s Fulham flying high in the Premier League, but Leeds was suggested as a possible destination for Calvin Bassey, who scored against Man United in the FA Cup.
Farke wanted a centre-back at Leeds, and that might still be the priority despite Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk playing exceptionally.
Well in 2023, with Leeds still in the Premier League, Bassey was playing his football with Ajax.
Former Netherlands international Rene Van der Gijp spoke on the print edition of Veronica Inside (17/01/23) about how Leeds and Southampton should’ve signed Bassey for just £10m.
Van der Gijp believed Ajax should’ve cut their losses on Bassey after a poor start with the Dutch giants.
“If I were Ajax, I would call Southampton and Leeds United and say, ‘You can have him for £10 million.”
This is a stark contrast now with the Nigerian being ‘popular’ at Fulham as Silva loves the centre-back, and he proved that against Man United.
Silva spoke after Bassey scored against Nottingham Forest a few weeks back, saying: “The players’ celebration showed how much they appreciate Calvin. It was his first goal for the club, and he’s a very popular figure in the dressing room.”

There’s certainly a difference between now and then with the defender, as Fulham are closing in on a potential European place in the Premier League.
This just shows how far Leeds are off it, and Farke now needs to bring the Whites back to their glory days.
The ambition is there from the owners, as the 49ers want Premier League targets, and Bassey could be one of those names after Leeds cement themselves back in the top flight.
It’s a long way to go, but if Leeds had signed Bassey for just £10m, it could’ve made a huge difference.
