If Leeds United are to delve into the January window, the chances are they will look to sign a new no.10 and one player on their radar is available for a bargain fee of £6.6m.

Currently sitting top of the Championship table and the only team to reach the 50-point mark after 24 games, Daniel Farke’s men are in a good position. The Leeds squad looks well-balanced at the moment.

However, there is a lack of depth in a couple of areas. Junior Firpo remains sidelined until the middle of January, while another centre-back would not go amiss especially as clubs line up to sign Max Wober.

Salzburg want to re-sign Wober, while Wolves have been touted with signing Wober. But the biggest likelihood is signing a rival for Brenden Aaronson, with Graham Smyth expecting a move for a no.10.

Leeds United interested in signing award-winning American

One playmaker on Leeds’ radar is Diego Luna. It comes after the Real Salt Lake talent enjoyed a superb 2024 campaign in which the one-time USA star had a hand in 17 goals, scoring nine and creating eight.

That form saw Luna win the MLS’ Young Player of the Season for 2024 and Leeds are interested. Now, a report from Voetbal Nieuws claims Real Salt Lake want a fee of £6.6m for Luna in the January window.

What Real Salt Lake manager Pablo Mastroeni said about Luna

So Leeds could boast two American talents in competition to start in the no.10 role. Brenden Aaronson has been excellent in recent weeks, proving to be much stronger on the ball and showing end product.

He got the winner last time out in the 1-0 win over Derby, and was unlucky not to see an assist registered for Joel Piroe’s first goal at Stoke. But he has started Leeds’ last 22 Championship games under Farke.

Leeds need competition and in Luna, it seems not only would they be signing a bright talent for the no.10 role, but a player with an excellent attitude off the pitch – according to his Salt Lake boss Pablo Mastroeni.

As per the MLS Soccer website, Mastroeni said about Luna last February: “His attitude is infectious. When he’s playing from that space, he not only becomes a great player, but he brings the other players along.”
