Leeds United target suggests a move to Elland Road doesn’t interest him in blow to Daniel Farke

Leeds United fans will have nothing to complain about this transfer window, as signings have been completed efficiently.

The 49ers deserve a lot of applause for their business so far, as to just go over £60m with six solid players signed is good going.

Anton Stach is the latest of these, and it appears as though Daniel Farke is settled with both midfield and defence for the season ahead.

Of course, things can change, and Ilia Gruev might want to leave Leeds, looking at the competition he’s set to face.

Another player previously on Leeds’ radar would be the perfect fit if the Bulgarian does depart, but his stance is very clear this summer.

Leeds United’s interest doesn’t appeal to Julian Weigl

A player who looked firmly like joining this summer was Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Julian Weigl.

This is because the experienced German has previously worked under Farke’s stewardship, and the 29-year-old looks like a brilliant option for Leeds.

Farke opened the door to Weigl signing, and despite Weigl being set to face competition at Gladbach, the German only has one thing on his mind for his current future.

Speaking to the print edition of the Rheinische Post (24/07/25), Weigl has responded to claims that Leeds have been interested this summer, and gave a very stern answer.

“For me, there was never a reason to think about it too much. That’s still the case,” Weigl said.

“If something really, really special were to come along, we could deal with it. Perhaps, at the end of our careers, America might be of interest to my wife and me again. I wouldn’t rule that out.”

Leeds have already got the perfect profile over Weigl

Of course, having a player of Weigl’s credentials would have come in handy, but the 49ers don’t need to worry themselves about the German.

Stach’s presence as the number six in Farke’s system is enough to suggest Weigl isn’t needed, as although he has experience on his side, Stach has so much more.

Weigl could have joined for £8.4m, but with all things considered, the £19.9m fee paid for Stach is looking like better value for a long-term solution.

Farke’s dream of reuniting with the midfielder is over, but a better relationship can now be built with Stach at Elland Road.
