Leeds United look like they’re about to miss out on one of their reported transfer targets who is closing in on an exciting move to Portugal.

Leeds United have seen no end of players linked with moves to Elland Road since winning the Championship title. But as was the case in the January transfer window, there’s not yet been any concrete reports of players about to sign for the club.

Albeit the summer transfer window doesn’t open for a couple of weeks yet. But it looks like Leeds United are already seeing a handful of their rumoured targets close in on moves elsewhere in Europe.

It’s been claimed that Bright Osayi-Samuel has agreed a move to Crystal Palace despite Leeds United’s interest throughout the 2024/25 season, with Daniel Farke clearly keen on bolstering his full-back department.

It comes amid speculation that Junior Firpo will join Real Betis as a free agent in the summer with Sam Byram among the other Leeds United players out of contract in the summer.

Sporting CP offer five-year contract to Leeds United target Georgios Vagiannidis

One full-back linked with a move to Elland Road is Georgios Vagiannidis. It’s been reported that Leeds United are tracking Vagiannidis at Panathinaikos, but Spurs have also been linked with a move for the 23-year-old right-back.

Now though, Portuguese outlet A Bola are reporting that Portuguese giants Sporting CP have moved forward in the race for Vagiannidis after submitting a third offer to Panathinaikos worth €8million (£6.7million). The same report adds that Vagiannidis has been offered a five-year deal with the club, worth €1.4million-a-season (£1.1million).

Lastly,it’s claimed that Vagiannidis is excited by the possibility of joining Panathinaikos and that he’s informed the Greek club of this. But any Sporting CP move for the player will have to wait until after the Taca de Portugal final on May 25th..

The latest on Leeds United’s search for new full-backs this summer

Thankfully, Vagiannidis isn’t the only full-back that Farke is focusing on right now with a handful linked with moves to West Yorkshire.

Another one is Max Aarons. The Bournemouth man is currently on loan at Valencia but he’s not managed to impress in La Liga. Despite that, Leeds United are interested in signing Aarons this summer and reuniting him with his former Norwich City boss Farke.

Kyle Walker-Peters continues to be linked as well. Recently, Leeds United News revealed that Leeds United have spoken with Walker-Peters but that the departing Southampton man has suitors across the Premier League, including Spurs and Everton.

Vagiannidis looks as though he’s keen on a move to Sporting CP who seem equally keen to sign him. Leeds United might have to move on quickly and put their focus into another right-back.
