Leeds United set to go ‘back in’ for £15m Championship striker this summer

A striker is looking like a serious priority at Leeds United this summer, with Daniel Farke looking to strengthen up top.

It’s become clear that the 49ers are eager to add another number nine to their ranks.

Joel Piroe was on fine form during the 24/25 season, netting 19 times in the Championship, but the hierarchy don’t believe that’s enough for a Premier League starting position.

An experienced head has been mooted with Jamie Vardy potentially joining Leeds, but he’s just one of many strikers linked with a switch to the Yorkshire side.

It’s unknown who the primary target is, but Leeds are now supposedly going back in for a striker they failed miserably to sign.

Leeds United set to go ‘back in’ for Southampton’s Cameron Archer

Back in January, it was looking like another striker would be the way forward for Farke to finish the season as well.

Many names were involved in what was an underwhelming January for the Whites, as Kelechi Iheanacho was on Leeds’ radar.

The Nigerian instead opted to go to Middlesbrough, where he didn’t set the world alight, so a possible bullet dodged.

But one name that continued to pop up as an option was Cameron Archer, who seemed bound to join Leeds in the winter.

The deal never came to fruition with Archer seemingly Leeds’ ‘number one target’ but now a deal could be back on, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Speaking to Last Word On Spurs, Jacobs has said that Farke could reignite his stake in signing the Southampton star, along with an array of options.

“We know that they tried for Cameron Archer in January, and now Southampton are Championship and Leeds are in the Premier League. So they might be back in for him,” Jacobs said.

“I heard they liked the idea of Callum Wilson, but Wilson’s got the chance to stay at Newcastle and have his contract extended as well.

“They’re looking at more versatile players, playmakers, 10s, advanced eights, like Emi Buendia, Gustavo Hamer. But Solomon is very high in the thinking of Leeds United.”

Leeds should avoid Archer after Premier League form

Whites fans won’t be pleased to hear this sort of name linked again as Leeds and Archer’s saga proved to be a fiasco.

It’s clear that signing the 23-year-old in January proved to be false, as Farke was happy with the squad going into the end of the season, and he was right to be.

But he can’t have the same attitude going into the top flight, however, Archer isn’t the way to go after a dire season in the Premier League.

To make matters worse, Archer even criticised his form, which won’t exactly get the 49ers desperate to sign him.

Fans probably won’t be too pleased, and it’s clear to see why, but Jacobs is certain the Whites could reemerge as suitors for the striker.
