Leeds United player out of contract this summer now being looked at very closely by Championship rivals

There may well be a Leeds United player exodus in the summer, regardless of promotion or not for Daniel Farke.

Leeds United’s squad is bound to undergo some pretty drastic changes in the summer: missing out on promotion would prompt a number of player exits and they’d need replacing, whilst promotion would see the owners and Daniel Farke spend big, no doubt.

And the Whites are almost there. After their 2-1 win over Preston North End on Saturday, Leeds United are now five points clear of Sheffield United in 3rd and they can all but secure promotion on Friday.

Leeds United play Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium and if Sheffield United lose at home to Cardiff City then Farke’s side would need just one more point from there on to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Already though it seems like summer transfer business at Elland Road is getting well underway with Leeds United linked with a number of players, as well as having a number of players linked with moves away from the club too.

Sheffield Wednesday hand trial to Leeds United youngster Owen Grainger

One Leeds United player who could seal his exit from the club even before the end of the season is academy goalkeeper Owen Grainger. The 17-year-old from Bridlington, who also plays for Northern Ireland’s U17s, is thought to be out of contract this summer.

The Star are now reporting that Grainger recently played in a trial match for Sheffield Wednesday’s U21s in their 1-1 draw against Brentford. The report adds that Grainger ‘made a number of saves in the game’, being one of four trialists for the young Owls side on Monday evening.

So far this season, Grainger has made three U18 Premier League appearances for Leeds United conceding 13 goals.

Leeds United have already replaced Owen Grainger

The goalkeeper position at Leeds United is very unstable in particular. Illan Meslier has been dropped as Leeds United’s no.1 and replaced by Karl Darlow, seemingly until the end of the season at least, with Farke then likely to go out and buy a new no.1 altogether.

Darlow has impressed but he’s now 34 years old. In January though, the Whites did actually make one signing, albeit not a first-team signing, with Leeds United signing goalkeeper Robbie Cook for the youth team.

The 18-year-old’s arrival may well have prompted Grainger to reconsider his own future at the club, though Farke will want to keep the production line consistent, especially in goal with Leeds United not currently having many options in that position in the long-term.
