Daniel Farke looks set to get his wish as Leeds United are closing in on the signing of a new striker and will beat promotion rivals Sunderland to the Premier League star’s signature in the process.

Daniel Farke identified the need for a new striker at Leeds last week, when he outlined three positions he felt required strengthening. It comes after Joe Gelhardt was allowed to leave Leeds on loan and join Hull.

Shortly after Gelhardt’s exit, Patrick Bamford suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury. It leaves Leeds with just Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph as options up front but that is now about to change.

Leeds United now confident of agreeing Cameron Archer deal

After chat on social media, it emerged that Leeds had opened talks to sign Southampton star Cameron Archer. Leeds had wanted Archer in the summer of 2023 before Sheffield United signed him for £18m.

Now, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has told LeedsUnited.News are confident of beating Sunderland to the signature of Archer this month with talks underway. Leeds would sign him on loan with an obligation.

“Leeds are pushing for Cameron Archer – he is a young player with so much potential, they saw that at rivals Middlesbrough not long ago. Leeds will have to give an obligation based on promotion,” he said.

“They are getting a player they can invest in the long-term with, this is not a stop-gap option although he will immediately enhance their charge to the Premier League,” Bailey told LeedsUnited.News on Archer.

Cameron Archer’s stats in Premier League since £18m move

Leeds were beaten by Sheffield United and Paul Heckingbottom to the signing of Archer just over 18 months ago, and he scored four goals in 32 appearances for the Blades before joining Southampton.

The £15m move has seen Archer score two Premier League goals in 21 appearances, and three more in the Carabao Cup. He has stats of just six goals in 60 top-flight outings, but 29 of those were as a sub.

Archer has found himself embroiled in two relegation fights, relegated with Sheffield United and what seems likely to be another with Southampton. A move to Leeds sees him escape a second relegation.
